From a trade perspective, weight measurement is indispensable. Everyone benefits when correct weight measurement is assured in trade:
- Buyers benefit from receiving the goods that weight they amount they pay for
- Businesses benefit by reducing potential over-supply and knowing there is measurement consistency across all competitors in the market
- The economy benefits domestically from consumer confidence and internationally from trade reputation through a consistent and reliable system
Trade measurement, as governed by the National Measurement Institute of Australia (NMI), is the system that regulates the buying or selling of goods and services – where the value is determined by measurement and the pricing of traded goods is based on accurate measurement.
A trade or commercial scale is one that is used in ‘determining the consideration in respect of a transaction.’ In other words, if the weight reading of a scale is used to buy or sell product, or to charge a tax or toll, it must be considered as a trade scale. And as a trade scale, it must be either certified by an inspector from the NMI or certified by a licensee. Diverseco is licensed by the NMI to certify trade scales in all states of Australia.
